  Motorists warned of disruption

DRIVERS are being warned of further traffic disruption in Umm Al Hassam where roads are already massively affected by work on an underpass and a flyover.

The temporary roundabout located at the junction of Kuwait Avenue and the Sitra Causeway will be removed but eastbound and westbound traffic will now be diverted into four new lanes running through the Mina Salman Industrial Area.

The changes are being made to allow excavation of the new underpass along Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway while work is due to start soon on the east-south flyover that will carry traffic non-stop from Mina Salman towards Sitra.

A senior official at the Works Ministry yesterday warned motorists that the "magnitude and pace" of road works at the junction would "significantly increase".

The major overhaul of the junction marks the start of the second phase of work, said ministry director of roads projects and maintenance and acting assistant under-secretary for roads Raed Al Saleh. He called on motorists to respect new traffic control measures being introduced at the junction, including temporary traffic lights. "We look forward to the co-operation and understanding of road users in the area following the implementation of the new traffic diversion and to their adherence to the new traffic signals and signs for their safety and the safety of others," he said.
