1. When is the expected completion date for the Project?
The contract commenced on November 2006. The estimated completion date is October 2009.
2. What will the Project include?
The project includes the redevelopment of Umm Al-Hassam Junction; with a flyover constructed to accommodate traffic from East (along Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway) to the South (Sitra). Another flyover will be constructed to take traffic from the East to the North toward Kuwait Avenue. The redevelopment works at the Junction will aslo include the construction of the first major underpass in Bahrain. It will facilitate traffic movement between the East and West in a free-flow manner.
In addition, the existing North and South Sitra bridges will be replaced by new bridges. Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridges fro the duration of the Project. Once the works are completed, the existing bridges will be demolished.
3. Are there any future traffic disruption during Project works?
We are constructing a temporary route around Umm Al-Hassam Junction that has the form of a tennis racket. There will be Variable Message Sign (VMS) boards that display any road closures or progress works in the vicinity of the Junction. This way, drivers would be aware of any traffic disruptions.
