Traffic Management Update
The Ministry of Works & Housing's objective is to mitigate traffic congestion and enhance traffic flow for the public use. The replacement of Sitra Bridges and the redevelopment of Umm Al - Hassam Junction is one of the Ministry's strategic projects to ensure the occurrence of this objective.
The works at Umm Al Hassam Junction will be carried out in phases.
Phase 1.
As the first stage of the traffic management plan, a tennis-racket-shaped roundabout (with handle at the western end of Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway) is to be constructed at Umm Al-Hassam Junction. The first phase is planned to be constructed in two months and it will be operational for approximately ten months. This will allow excavation works for the underpass to be carried out inside the roundabout.
See Stage 1 Figure in PDF format.
Phase 2.
This diversion is necessary for the Sitra Project’s Contractor to carry out his preliminary works for the Flyover to Kuwait Avenue as well as the Underpass construction at Umm Al Hassam.
The change will encompass a length of 200 m diversion of traffic on Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway, east of the Umm Al Hassam Junction. Traffic heading west towards Mina Salman Junction will utilize the far right and middle lane. Traffic heading east towards Map of Bahrain Junction will utilize the left lane South Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway and the far left lane of North Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway; maintaining the median due to street lighting posts.
Effective Date: November 05, 2007 - April 2008
